SHOT OF THE DAY

Peace Out, Bro!

The students complained they did not have enough to read, so we made a quick trip to the local bookshop:

Sneaky kids select a surprise gift book to present to Professor Frakt in honor of his promotion to Lt Col.

Eric browses through a biography of the President searching in vain for a mention of Barack's dear friend and fellow HLS alum Dave Frakt.
Which way is the fashion magazine section?

A spirited afternoon volleyball game.  Let's just say that academic scholarship are looking more likely than athletic scholarships at this point - with the possible exception of volleyball superstar Morgan Jones!

Don't ask.

Guest Blog Post from the big red team John McFarlane and Benjamin Schwartz!

Tuesday night everyone went to bed knowing today would be a good day. Then they remembered that they had to wake up at 8. Nonetheless, there were no problems or delays and everyone was treated with a delicious breakfast. When the morning session began, although we were all half-asleep (or half-awake if you are an optimist) we reviewed the Judgment at Nuremburg.  During that time, Major/Prof. Frakt informed us that he had been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and there was much rejoicing.  Unfortunately, due to several swine flu cases in the area and the nefarious meddling by the Powers That Be (Ben wrote that part), our plan to eat lunch at the beautifully Gothic West Campus was ruined.  Instead, we went for a stroll on

9th Street
, and visited the various shops there, including a Duke clothing store and a bookshop.  At the bookshop, it was decided that we should all sign a card congratulating the newly minted Lieutenant Colonel for his promotion.  In addition, a book containing pictures of chickens was also purchased, and Jeff and Maria decided which picture represented each student. We then set out for lunch (we were about 75% awake, so it was all good) and were treated to another great meal (hearty and delicious of course). Our afternoon session consisted of events like the Yugoslavian conflict and cases of brutal wars and ended with the last 30 minutes of Judgment at Nuremburg. Later some students who had procrastinated on their book report had a chance to catch up. During free time, we split into two groups.  Lt. Colonel Frakt received a knee wound worthy of a Purple Heart, I (Ben) miraculously defeated Kate and Sana at billiard ball, and others intrepidly went to work out in the gym. At dinner Jeff arm-wrestled several people, and I (Ben) got noodles up my nose.  On the way back, I (Ben) and Kelsey engaged in an epic speed walk contest, of which I was clearly the winner. We then returned to the common room for class at 6:30. In class, we (for the first time this week) learned about next week’s fascinating destination, the Hague, and about tomorrow’s guest speakers. Later in the night, the group of Ben and John completed this and played Taboo. Even though we awoke at 8, it was a good day.
